Bad Links? | Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
This was a saying coined in the dark years of WWI that I believe later became a song. This depicted a mind set that there was a serious job to be done and men and women and men of great faith and compassion did what they needed to do. There has been a wonderful outpouring of compassion and help that shows the soul of America that I applaud. This total out pouring of faith groups, individuals, and compassionate organizations to help fellow Americans in time of crisis depicts a love of mankind that transcends all social, economic, racial, denominational, and creedal lines. I will have to confess that New York City to me was, and is a hostile place. Being a total extrovert, I like smiling at people and engaging them in what is to me normal conversation. It is the way we extroverts process information. No talkie, no laundry! In New York City you learn very quickly that you dont even look at anyone too long before someone says to you. Whaddua you lookin at?? And it goes down hill from there. Imagine being a total extravert and NOT BEING ABLE TO PROCESS INFORMATION THROUGH TALKING AND INTERACTING. A real bummer for sure. HOWEVER, after 9/11, I saw a different New Yorker, I saw that under that bunker façade was a real compassionate individual that was also yearning to be free and to express compassion to their fellowman. When Katrina hit, all of America was glued to the TV to watch the destruction and to find out how we all could help. Last Friday, I received a call from our Fairburn Baptist Association requesting counselors to go to the Holiday Inn on Virginia, Avenue near the Atlanta Airport. Delta was flying several plane loads of evacuees from New Orleans. The Holiday Inn put these desperate people who had literally lost absolutely every thing they had in just a few hours. People were sitting around tables in groups while being served breakfast from the Holiday Inn. Most of them all had Delta tee shirts on because it was their first change of clothes since the storm hit. Some of them had their wallets with them with their I. D. cards and credit cards, and some did not. Imagine having lost everything and not even having your identification card or drivers license to prove who you are! I was able to have prayer with each table where we all joined hands and called on the Almighty. These were sacred moments. Even in tragedy we all need to find something humorous to survive the pain inside. This for me would have to be the fact that every evacuee that landed here in Atlanta had on a Delta T-shirt, and Braves hat and eating Chick-Fil A sandwiches. I had to turn my head and do a private laugh. It was also humorous that each of the evacuees that were say, Yankee fans, or whom ever, were quick to point out that their allegiance was to their favorite team, and that they were only wearing this hat because they had lost their other one by either a helicopter or by the storm winds. These were the only companies that I had seen in my small part of this total tragedy. Im sure there are hundreds of companies with the same compassionate spirit and individuals and churches with the same. I will always appreciate Delta, and Holiday Inn, and Chick-Fil-A for their acts of kindness on that day. Always remember that God is not mocked, and still on His throne dealing with the affairs of mankind. If you are planning to help in this human tragedy, give through your local church groups. Blessings and prayers. Praise the Lord and Pass the diapers, and bottled water!
