Bad Links? | Locals pick up region wins as schedule heats up By MICHAEL BOYLAN Region play has started for some of the local softball teams and from the looks of it, it will be a very tight season. Last Thursday, Whitewater handed McIntosh their first region loss, putting both teams near the top of region 4-AAAA with 3-1 records. The game was a pitching duel with the Lady Chiefs being led by Morgan Kidd and her 10 strikeouts, while Ashley Pedersen pitched for Whitewater and got seven strikeouts. Jessica Conaway drove in the run for McIntosh, while Jill Keller and Megan Glaze drove in the tying and winning runs respectively. The Lady Chiefs will host Alexander next Tuesday at 6 p.m., while Whitewater hosts Chapel Hill next Tuesday at 6;30 p.m. Starrs Mill had a busy week with a 2-1 win over Brookwood on Tuesday, a game at Mundys Mill on Wednesday and a game against the eight ranked Kennesaw Mountain team on Thursday after the paper went to press. The Lady Panthers will play at East Coweta at 6 p.m. next Tuesday. Landmark Christian got a 16-1 win over Our Lady of Mercy earlier this week as pitcher Ashley Chastain produced seven strikeouts over three innings for the win and her second no-hitter of the year. Kat Strickland went 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs. The Lady War Eagles faced Galloway last night after the paper went to press and will take on Mt. Zion, Carroll at home on Monday at 5 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy took on Eagles Landing Christian Academy last night and will host Mt. Paran on Monday at 5 p.m. Fayette County picked up a 7-2 win over Lovejoy on Wednesday night with Caroline Teubl striking out nine batters and earning the win and Chasity Welch and Ebony Baitey both having great nights at the plate. Fayette County has games at Newnan and Mundys Mill next Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Both games start at 6 p.m. |
