Bad Links? | Times get tough as locals face top teams By MICHAEL BOYLAN McIntoshs varsity volleyball team, currently ranked third in AAAA, took on Wesleyan, ranked number one in Class AA/A and Woodward Academy, ranked first in Class AAAA, in College Park on Tuesday night. The Lady Chiefs, lost two close matches to Wesleyan, 25-22 and 27-25. They will play in the East West tournament this weekend and will begin region play on Tuesday with home games against Whitewater and Mays. Matches begin at 5 p.m. Starrs Mill, the top ranked team in Class AAAAA, took on Marist and Milton last Thursday and fell to Marist 25-15 and 25-21. The Lady Panthers will take on Houston County at 6 p.m. next Tuesday to start region play. The volleyball teams from Landmark Christian, Sandy Creek and Fayette County High School met at Sandy Creek last Thursday. The Lady Patriots went 1-1 on the day, losing to Landmark, ranked second in Class AA/A but defeating Fayette County. In the match against Landmark, Sandy Creek lost in two games, 25-15 and 25-18. In the match against the Lady Tigers, Sandy Creek won 25-18 and 25-23. Fayette County also lost to Landmark 25-20 and 25-19. Fayette County was scheduled to meet East Coweta and Eagles Landing Christian Academy yesterday after the paper went to press. They will begin their region schedule next Tuesday with matches at Starrs Mill. Sandy Creek met Eagles Landing and Lovejoy on the road last night and will start their region schedule next Tuesday with matches against Creekside, Northgate and Woodward Academy at Creekside. Matches begin at 5 p.m. Landmark Christian will have region matches against Our Lady of Mercy and Grady at Grady next Tuesday with matches beginning at 4:45 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy hosted Paideia on Tuesday and won 3-1, winning matches by scores of 25-18,25-21 and 25-19. Their loss came in the second game, by a score of 25-19. The Lady Bobcats played Holy Innocents and Campbell at Holy Innocents last night. All rankings come from the GaSports.com coaches poll. |
