Bad Links? | CORRAL Ride 2005 set for Sat.Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Coweta and surrounding counties will join forces Sept. 10 for the second annual CORRAL Ride 2005 benefiting the Coweta Organization for Riding, Rehabilitation and Learning, a not-for-profit organization located in the historic Sewell barn in Roscoe, Ga. Local business owners have once again showed their support by generously donating $100 or more to sponsor the ride. Sponsorship increased nearly 35 percent this year with the addition of several new businesses including Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse and ReMax Realty. In addition, many businesses have donated gift certificates, gift baskets and various other items to raffle or auction during the event. Last year, nearly $6,000 was raised for the charity and this year, event coordinator Ronda Schwenning is raising the bar to $10,000, a goal she feels is attainable, considering the outpouring of generosity both last year and this year. CORRAL is a place where mentally and physically handicapped children and adults come to participate in therapeutic horseback riding and instruction at no cost to the participant. Horseback riding for the handicapped has been recognized internationally as one of the most beneficial types of therapeutic recreation available, and classes are comprised of students with a wide range of disabilities. Assistance is provided to the Coweta County School System Special Education classes and to any other individuals that qualify. CORRAL depends solely on partial funding from United Way and private donations to cover operating expenses. It is through the volunteers and sponsors that CORRAL can offer these services free of charge. Registration for CORRAL Ride 2005 begins Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Coweta Custom Cycles in the J&R Plaza on Ga. Highway 34 at White Oak, with the first bike out at 11:30 a.m. and last bike out at 12:30 p.m. The ride will take place entirely within Coweta County; maps of the route will be available at registration. The cost is $20 per bike and $10 for an additional rider. Non-riders are invited to come out and to view the motorcycles and send them off. CORRAL Ride 2005 is still looking for raffle prize give-a-ways and donations. To make a donation, or for more information about the ride, email Schwenning at corralride05@yahoo.com or call 770-463-9331.
