Bad Links? | Car slams into back of school busA College Park woman and another passenger in her car were seriously injured when it slammed into the rear a school bus stopped on the road late Tuesday afternoon in north Fayette County, police said. The collision was so violent that the front compartment of the 1987 Toyota Camry driven by Khady Diallo, 22, of College Park, ended up under the rear of the bus on Ga. Highway 314 just south of North Fayette Drive. Diallo and passenger Fatou Ba of College Park were both airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital by Angel Flight. More than a dozen medics and firefighters worked on the two, who were initially trapped in the car. A wrecker from Fayette Wrecker lifted the bus off the car so both victims could be removed. Three other passengers, who sat in the back seat of Diallos car, suffered less serious injuries. The three students in the bus at the time and the bus driver avoided serious injuries and did not require an ambulance ride to the hospital, officials said. Deputy Chief Allen McCullough of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services said it was fortunate that Fayette wrecker could respond quickly to the scene. Before the wrecker lifted the bus to free the entrapped victims in the car, emergency crews worked frantically to set up special air bags designed to lift heavy vehicles so the victims could be freed. |
