Bad Links? | Qualifying for local elections starts MondayBy JOHN THOMPSON City halls should be crowded next week as candidates for mayors and city councilmen get ready to pony up their qualifying fees. Voters will choose mayors in Newnan, Turin and Senoia, along with city councilmen in Newnan, Grantville, Turin and Senoia. The two most interesting elections may be in Grantville and Senoia. In Grantville, all four council seats are up for grabs, while in Senoia, Mayor Robert Hannah and councilmen Larry Owens and Tony Miller are up for re-election. During Monday nights contentious Senoia City Council meeting, Hannah announced that he would be qualifying next week. Former Senoia City Administrator Murray McAfee also has announced that he will seek the top job in Senoia. For the last few months, Senoia has been experiencing growing pains as different groups of residents have been voicing what the future of Senoia should be and this falls election got even more intriguing with the ethics violation allegation leveled at Hannah by City Councilman Robert Belisle. Qualifying runs from 8:30 a.m-4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. In Senoia, the qualifying fees are $90 for councilmen and $360 for mayor. |
