St. Marys will offer Divorce and Beyond workshopA special program addressing the emotional issues and pain of divorce is being offered by St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg. The eight-week program, entitled Divorce and Beyond, will begin Saturday, Sept. 10, on the parish property on lower Fayetteville Road. The goals of the program are to provide support within a caring faith community and to guide participants to find positive and healthy ways to deal with the many emotions they are experiencing during the time of transition and beyond. The difficulties experienced in a separation or divorce are multiple, said Father Daniel J. Fleming, pastor of St. Marys. We hope to be able to help people better understand what they are going through and to assist in the process of readjustment and healing in their lives. Fleming added that the program will address the pain and grief associated with the emotional turmoil of divorce. The program recognizes the primary emotions experienced by a person working through the divorcing process and tries to help the participant achieve some understanding and stability in his or her life. All sessions are held in strict confidence. Sharon Burke, coordinator of the new program, says it will offer a secure environment for conversation and companionship and a place for sharing compassion and understanding of the many feelings associated with divorce and separation. We offer an atmosphere of ease and trust, she said. The fee for the program is $10. To register, contact Burke at 770-317-7990. The church is at 4046 Lower Fayetteville Rd., near the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 154, near Sharpsburg. |
