Bad Links? | Weekend boot drive nets $15K for Red CrossA boot drive in Peachtree City to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina over the weekend raised $15,000, according to the Peachtree City Fire Department. Members of the fire department from the career, volunteer and explorer ranks took to busy intersections and shopping centers with their boots in hand, seeking donations for the American Red Cross, one of the lead agencies providing food and shelter for hurricane victims. Firefighters were overwhelmed by the support for the hurricane victims, who will benefit from the funds forwarded to the Red Cross. The agency is calling its response to Katrina victims the single largest mobilization in its history. The boot drive started 4 p.m. Friday and ended Sunday evening, with the assistance of Southern Community Bank. Fire Chief Stony Lohr and Assistant Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth described the event as a success beyond expectations. We are grateful to the citizens of our community who donated so graciously, Lohr said. Fayette residents will continue to get opportunities to give to the Red Cross, as donations can be made at all local Kroger and Publix stores. |
