Bad Links? | Gas prices and greed stations
I love many things about America and her people. You may disagree with me here, but I even go so far as to believe that God ordained America for greatness. I even go so far as to believe that our Constitution and Bill of Rights are sacred, God-inspired documents. Read on, there is more radical thought! It hurts me to see Americans so obsessed with greed that they will gouge fellow Americans and call it the American Way. I was taught in Sunday school that you never make a deal with the Devil and get a good deal. I was also taught you never do right by doing wrong, and you never do wrong by doing right. I have traveled extensively around the world and have been a collector all of my life. In fact, when I married my beautiful bride, Dee, I said to her, Sweetheart, you need to know something about me before we marry. I will always take care of Gods work, the church, our family, and our country, but I will also die a collector. In other words, I wanted to be totally honest and let her into my soul, and into my head. If some of you are scratching your heads as to what I meant about being a collector, read on. When I was in the Army, we continually were training for the mission at hand. Some of the training caused you to scratch your head, wondering where in the world would you use this or that, but some of it was very valuable training. Since we were always moving, and getting new people to work with on a continuing basis, it was important to put the right people with the right job. In other words, we were in such a mobile and flexible situation in the work place, it was important to marry up certain personalities and skills with the right job. In order to do this, we received training in the Meyers Briggs Personality Assessment Profile. In fact, this turned out to be very valuable. It got to the point to where you would get a new person into the command and ask them from the git-go (while the honeymoon was still on) to take the Meyers Briggs Personality Assessment profile. Some got their feathers ruffled but in the long run, it turned out to be a very useful personnel tool. When I took the personality analysis one of the strengths was that I was a collector. What this personality instrument did was to ask you several hundred questions as to how you would handle certain situations. It would ask you the same question in so many different ways that eventually the truth would come out. It was the best instrument I have ever seen. If you dont believe that my wife and I are collectors, you must come to visit us in our home. We have collected so much for so long that our house looks like a museum, which to me is a compliment because I love museums. It is with this collector personality that I obtained our British armored car, the Ferret, that I continually write about. We have a wonderful Web site for Ferret collectors entitled The Ferret Haven Web site. It is on this Web site that I met some wonderful men who have the same addiction. This is probably a long way around the horn to talk about gas prices but I thought it helpful to keep you from committing suicide at your local gas station, or should I say greed station. The following e-mail is from a good Ferret Haven Friend Dave, who is the proud owner of a 1956 Ferret. Here is his take on the gas prices and his solution. Preach on, Dave! I tell ya what. I run a service station here in Kansas City. We do sell gas. We arent mandated by anyone on what price we must sell the stuff. I can truthfully tell you I dont make much of a profit selling gas. Once I pay for the fuel, the maintenance on the tanks, pumps, repairs on them, state licenses, local licenses, etc, etc. there is no profit. I will be marking my gas down as of Friday morning to cost. I am going to sell it at exact cost at the time I bought it, which was last Friday. I have 8,000 gallons of regular 87 octane gas and 9,000 gallons of 91 octane sitting there in the ground. I will sell it at cost until it is all gone. Empty, nothing left. I will not replenish my tanks until the cost of fuel goes back to something that is within reason. I figure that since I am not making money selling the stuff, I might as well give it away at cost and be done with it. If only every station would do the same, the depot, and suppliers would be forced to lower the prices to get us to buy. I know I am just one small gas station, but I will be spending the day tomorrow preparing for the sale on fuel. To top it off, all pumps will be full service. I am going to stop my guys from working in the shop, and have them pump gas! I expect that the local news and media will also be there and long lines trying to get in to buy it. I was just 10 cents cheaper than the other people on the same street for less than 1 hour and all my pumps were extremely busy! Just think what they are going to be like when the price for 87 octane fuel is only $2.12 a gallon when the other guys are more than a dollar above that! Its certainly gonna be an interesting day! Fed up with the fuel prices! God bless you, Dave. You are a great American! (The churchs Web site is under construction temporarily and will be up and running again shortly.)
