Bad Links? | Teams hope for more wins this week By MICHAEL BOYLAN Fayette County (1-1) at South Gwinett (1-1) The Tigers picked up a big win over the Jonesboro Cardinals last week, piling up 47 points and close to 400 yards rushing. It was the second consecutive game where quarterback Brandon Boykin rushed for two touchdowns. Fayette County also got a big rushing performance from fullback Alex Parsons, who ran for 180 yards and a touchdown in the win. South Gwinnett will be a formidable opponent for the Tigers. The Comets picked up a 35-7 win over South Forsyth last week. They also handed Fayette County a 38-10 loss last year. While these are two different teams this year, the Tigers must stick with what has been working for them thus far, which is solid blocking and a defense that bends but rarely breaks. Landmark Christian (2-0) vs. Social Circle (0-1-1) The War Eagles are on a roll to start the 2005 season. They have scored over 30 points in both of their wins this season and have proven themselves to be effective both in the passing and the running game. matt Moody continues to find Jimmy Edens and Miles King for touchdown receptions and Trey Strickland is running the ball well. The entre defensive unit is also playing well, allowing only eight points thus far this season. Social Circle tied Monroe Area 28-28 in their first game of the season and fell to Monticello 21-14 last week. The Redskins have shown that they are able to move the ball but will they be able to slow down a very potent and balanced attack? Our Lady of Mercy (0-2) @ Oglethorpe County The Bobcats havent had the easiest schedule this season with games against Pacelli and Walker and things dont get any easier tonight with a game at Ogelthorpe County. Our Lady of Mercy put some points on the board last week and they hope to see continued improvement as they move along throughout the season. The Patriots defeated Banks County 33-6 in the first week and then defeated North Oconee 41-20 last week. They will be a tough team for the Bobcats to slow down this week. Sandy Creek (1-0) vs. Northgate (1-1) The Patriots showcased a great defense in their first game of the season, while their offense showed some positive signs. Last weeks bye week gave Kody Green and Vincent Jones a chance to heal some minor injures they incurred towards the end of the Villa Rica game. Coach Chip Walker hopes that his team will be able to capitalize on their offensive opportunities in this weeks game. Northgate lost to Woodward Academy 31-28 in double overtime in the first week. The Vikings bounced back with a 20-7 win over Haralson County last week and are hoping top continue the trend of playing good defense and getting the big plays on offense when they need them. Quarterback Andre Morris ran for two touchdowns last week and threw for one more in last weeks win. All of Northgates socres came in the second half. Starrs Mill (1-1) vs. Spalding (0-2) Thus far, the defense of the Panthers has been playing better than the offense and the offense has been playing better than the kicking game. Coach Mike Earwood would like to see all three play as good as possible as the start of the region schedule nears. Antonio Brown rushed for two touchdowns last week and Greg Davis added 82 yards rushing in the win. The Panthers had two costly turnovers last week and will need to eliminate them tonight. Spalding lost to Salem 22-18 in the first week and then fell to Upson Lee 34-14 last week. The Jaguars have proven themselves able to score but their defense has had a hard time slowing down rushing offenses.
