Bad Links? | Bridge to remain pedestrianBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoias last remaining bridge will continue to be a pedestrian walkway. Last week, the City Council met in an abbreviated five-minute session and agreed to ship the citys short-term work program to the state, but also briefly discussed the bridge on Bridge Street. For the last few years, the bridge has been a walkway, instead of a road for access between Ga. Highway 16 and Pylant Street. Residents have wondered if the bridge would ever be restored. The final word seems to be that the bridge will stay pedestrian. Councilman Robert Belisle noted that $25,000 was in the citys budget for maintenance on the aging structure. It would take far more money to get it back up to driveability standards, said City Clerk Debby Hogan. The bridge is fine for pedestrians and dogs, but cars would require a significant flow of cash, she added. |
