Bad Links? | Whitewater nails down their second region win By MICHAEL BOYLAN The Whitewater High School varsity softball team traveled to Tyrone to take on Sandy Creek last Thursday. When all was said and done, the Lady Wildcats walked away with a 5-0 win, their second consecutive region win. Ashley Pedersen took the mound for Whitewater and pitched a masterful game, allowing no hits and striking out nine in the win. She had pitched four innings in Whitewaters win over Lithia Springs and struck out eight batters, giving her 17 strikeouts in 11 innings. Ashley feels like she is pitching better than she has in a long time, saaid Coach Stacey Smith. Right now she is just dominating. Pedersen also got a lot of help from the offense which put up three runs in the first inning. Jill Keller drove in Pedersen for the first run, while Danielle Dickson drove in Keller and Lauren Moyer with an RBI triple. Pedersen drove in the fourth run with a single in the second and Dickson drove in Tess Echols in the fifth inning for the fifth and final run. This is a big week in the region for Whitewater. They were scheduled to take on Northgate yesterday after the paper went to press and they will face McIntosh tomorrow at 5 p.m. Sandy Creek was scheduled to meet Douglas County yesterday evening. In other softball news, Landmark Christian dropped two games last Thursday and Friday. The War Eagles fell to Whitefield Academy 6-2 on Thursday and faced a dominating pitcher from Eagles Landing Christian Acadmey on Friday as they were shutout 7-0. Landmark was scheduled to take on Mt. Zion, Carroll yesterday evening. Starrs Mill had a busy weekend. On Friday, they played to a scoreless tie with North Gwinnett as the game reached its time limit. On Saturday, the Lady Panthers lost to Shiloh 4-2 after making three costly errors. Starrs Mill then ran off three straight wins. They beat Dacula 1-0 with the international tiebreaker after Amanda Howett drove in the winning run with an RBI single. They followed that win with a 7-0 victory over McIntosh with Jordan Aszman, Holly Oglesbee and Lynsey Tedfor each going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring two runs. Howett was 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a triple and three RBIs. On Monday, Starrs Mill got an 11-1 win over South Gwinnett with Lindsey Walker driving in three runs and Cate Rosa and Howett each going 2-for-4 at the plate. Starrs Mill was scheduled to host Lovejoy last night.
