Fourth annual Interfaith Service set for Sept. 8The Fayette Interfaith Network will sponsor its fourth annual Interfaith Service Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, 175 E. Lanier Ave., just east of the old courthouse. This years service, themed Compassion in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim Traditions, will focus on the similarities between the worlds three major monotheistic religions. Local Christian, Jewish, and Muslim congregations have teamed together to plan and lead the service. Its amazing what we learn from each other and about each culture and religion every time we come together. Its a great experience, says the Rev. Bob Hudak of The Church of the Nativity in Fayetteville. Hudak, along with Soumaya Khalifa of the Islamic Speakers Bureau, began the Fayette Community Interfaith Network after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. We felt like there was a lot of negative energy in the community, explains Khalifa. Understanding one another became the number one priority. Since Hudak and Khalifa began the Interfaith Network three years ago, they have seen it grow to include members of the Congregation BNai Israel, Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City, and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service, featuring foods provided by the congregations. For more information, contact the Rev. Mark Westmoreland, 770-461-4313; the Rev. Bob Hudak, 770-460-6390; Ms. Soumaya Khalifa, 678-523-5080; Ms. Susan Levine, 678-817-7162; or the Rev. John Weber, 770-487-8717.
