Bad Links? | Weed declines another run at council seatBy JOHN MUNFORD Peachtree City Councilman Murray Weed will not be running for re-election, he announced late last week. Instead, Weed is committing himself to a run for higher office, although he is declining to reveal what office he might seek. He currently serves as the full-time city attorney for Hapeville in addition to serving on the Peachtree City Council. He also is chairman of the Peachtree City Tourism Association. Weed said he will make an announcement early next year about the post he will seek, which will coincide with the kickoff of fund-raising efforts. His decision not to run leaves only one announced candidate left in the race for Weeds post on council, which will be decided in elections this fall. Dan Gibbs, a bankruptcy attorney and the husband of Fayette County Chamber of Commerce President Virginia Gibbs, is now unopposed for the seat. Qualifying is set for Sept. 12 through 16. Ive really enjoyed my time as councilman, Weed said, adding that he is proud of the citys accomplishments during his tenure, like the establishment of a visitors center at the Peachtree City Tennis Center, and supporting the creation of the Dog Park and contributing funds to the All Childrens Playground. Those things were very important to me, Weed said. Weed said he also is proud of the citys recent decision to provide Wi-Fi internet access to the public at three recreation venues, which started with a concept he had to use electronic kiosks to provide tourism information. Matt Robinson of the citys information technology department fleshed out the idea to provide the Wi-Fi access, and it was a better plan than just using kiosks, Weed noted. I think weve done some good things and Im proud of what we accomplished, Weed said.
