Bad Links? | 5:30 p.m. - Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005PTC running out of gasA number of gas stations in Peachtree City had already run out of gas by early Wednesday afternoon as long lines at the pumps caused some motorists to have short fuses. The Flash Foods at the intersection of Crosstown Road and Ga. Highway 74 had traffic backed up all the way to the Wendy’s restaurant next door as many vehicles waited for access to one of the station’s six pumps. Tempers flared at one point, with some motorists shouting at each other. Throughout Fayette County, police were dispatched to several similar disputes at area gas stations. And just about everywhere there was a gas pump, there was a traffic problem as oftentimes the line to wait for gas backed up onto the highway in Peachtree City. Everyone was stuck in the same boat, hearing news reports that gas will be hard to come by in days ahead. Shannon Graham, owner of Graham’s BP, said just after 3 p.m. that he had 15,000 gallons of gas when the business day started, but with a line of cars 10 deep waiting to get to the pumps, he didn’t expect to have gas much longer, guessing it would run out by 6 p.m. “They say we have a 10-day supply in Atlanta, but with people buying gas like this way, there won’t be 10 days’ worth,” Graham said as he helped steer customers to pumps once they opened up. “It wouldn’t surprise me if sometime this week or this weekend, you won’t be able to buy gas,” Graham said. Just after 4 p.m., the Village Glenloch and the nearby Pit Stop gas station on Ga. Highway 54 east were out of gas, police reported. |
