Bad Links? | Lady Tigers start season 2-3 in Up the Creek tournamentBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County Lady Tigers went 2-3 in the Up the Creek tournament at McCurry Park in Fayetteville last weekend. Fayette County opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Woodward Academy and followed it with a 7-0 loss to Jones County. Caroline Teubl was the winning pitcher in the Woodward game and was injured in the Jones County game, keeping her off the mound for the rest of the tournament. Britt Hammel-Cobb pitched all three games on Saturday and went 1-2, earning the win in an 11-1 victory over Riverwood and picking up the losses against Cherokee (6-1) and Newnan (3-2). Coach Jill Joiner was pleased with her teams defensive play in the tournament, citing thir baseman Chastity Welch and center fielder Ebony Baitey as two standouts. She also cited Welch, Rachel Barnes and Tori Owens as the top hitters for the team during the tournament. Fayette County will be off until a game at McIntosh at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. They will host East Coweta in their first region game of the season on Thursday at 6 p.m. |
