Bad Links? | More I-85 lane closures this weekendBy BEN NELMS The weekend is back. And so is the traffic nightmare along I-85. Construction this weekend will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and continue through Monday at 5 a.m. Northbound closures will include both ramps at Ga. Highway 138 and two right lanes from Hwy. 138 to Flat Shoals Road. Southbound closures will affect two right lanes from Hwy. 138 to Ga. Highway 74. We encourage motorists to stay away from these construction zones if possible, said Metro District Construction Engineer Mickey McGee. But if they cant, motorists should continue to seek alternative routes as these lane closures, especially with the ramps to the mall closed, will result in heavy delays. The entire reconstruction project northbound and southbound from I-285 to Hwy. 74 is still scheduled to be completed sometime next month. DOT said motorists will have a brief respite during Labor Day weekend. DOT construction crews will not be working anywhere in the Atlanta metro area that weekend to accommodate the heavily traveled holiday. Those interested can visit the DOT NaviGator Web site, www.georgia-navigator.com, for construction updates and information. Construction information is also available 24 hours each day at (888) 419-GDOT (4368) or by dialing *DOT or #DOT from a cellular phone to speak with a DOT Transportation Management Center operator. |
