Bad Links? | Fairburn moves next to FayetteBy BEN NELMS Fairburn continued its steady move south along the east side of the Ga. Highway 74 corridor with the annexation and rezoning Tuesday of the 3.71-acre Etris property. The unanimous vote brings Fairburns city limits all the way to the Fayette County line. The council approved C-2 zoning for the property. City Administrator Jim Williams told council members the property is bordered on the north by the Tarene Farms tract, already zoned C-2 Commercial, and to the south by undeveloped land in unincorporated Faytte County zoned for agricultural use. The 3.71-acre tract includes 400 feet on frontage along Hwy.74. Williams said the property owners have no current plans for commercial development. A C-2 commercial zoning would be consistent with adjoining property to the north. The annexation and rezoning request, he said, was aimed at selling the property to a commercial developer for a project to be determined at a later date. The annexation and rezoning came with six standard conditions. Williams said the annexation and rezoning was in accordance with the citys Annexation Policy and Comprehensive Plan and the GA 74 Corridor Overlay Plan. Future potential for Fairburn and Southwest Fultons portion of the Hwy. 74 corridor includes a largely commercial district that encompasses property on both sides of the highway from Fayette County to I-85 and beyond. Interparcel access roads as well as median cutouts will likely be installed as development continues. |
