Bad Links? | Burglar strikes at police chiefs homeBy LEE WILLIAMS Tyrone Police Chief Johnny Hay said the thief who entered his storage shed and stole over $4,800 in merchandise doesnt appear to be a stranger. Hay, who is still deeply troubled by the burglary that took place between noon Aug. 3 and 11:15 a.m. Aug. 13, said he has his own ideas about who stole the items and how to handle the situation. But the former Peachtree City police officer said hes not going to take the law into his own hands. Hes going to let the Coweta County Sheriffs Department handle it. Coweta County Sheriffs officials responded to Hays Newnan home Aug. 13 after the chief noticed his storage shed had been burglarized. The unknown assailant entered Hays unlocked storage shed and cleaned house, according to reports. The thief stole a green 2002 Yamaha four-wheeler with gun racks on the front and a black toolbox, a chainsaw, tiller, weedeater and gray tacklebox, with a combined value of $4,850. Hay, 60, indicated all of the items were insured and will be replaced. Hay, who lives down the street from Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager, said the incident is not what he expected. Whats frustrating about the ordeal, Hay indicated, is that he has spent the last 33 years in law enforcement trying to keep thieves away from everyone elses property and now they are taking his. Investigator John Kennedy has been assigned to the case. It is unclear if any arrests have been made or any suspects have been identified. Kennedy was unavailable for comment Tuesday. |
