Celebrate Charlie Brown at Newnan Theatre Company

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” is continuing its run at Newnan Theatre Company and runs through the weekend. the show has been so successful, that the company has decided to add a 2:30 p.m. Saturday matinee The Popcorn Theatre series show is rated G for all ages; show director Jennifer Dorrell suggests bringing the whole family.

The play follows a day in the life of the hapless lead character of Charles Schultz’ popular comic strip. Audiences are with him every step of the way, from his uncertain morning, moments of wild optimism, times of utter despair to his hopeful evening. And, of course, all Charlie’s friends, Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder and Snoopy are there, too

Scears Lee plays Charlie Brown, Ellen Sturgill is Lucy, Mac Clark is Schroeder, Chase Peacock is Linus, Courtney Bailey is Sally and Melissa Porter is Snoopy. The show also features dancers Maggie Malone, Mary Anna Hendley and Rachel Puleo.

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” (Revised) played on Broadway in 1999 and was a fresh approach to the 1966 classic. The book, music and lyrics are by Clark Gesner. In this version, Sally Brown joins Charlie Brown and his friends and two new songs, “Beethoven Day” and “My New Philosophy,” are added to the well-loved numbers, including “My Blanket and Me,” “The Kite,” “The Baseball Game,” “Little Known Facts,” “Suppertime” and “Happiness Is.”

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” is presented on the Main Stage and runs August, 26, 27 and 28. Newnan Theatre Company is located at 24 First Ave in Newnan. Performances begin 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults $8 for students and seniors.
