Bad Links? | Local volleyball teams face tough competitionThe Lady Patriots Volleyball team traveled to Chapel Hill last Thursday to compete against Chapel Hill, Sprayberry and Hiram in a tri-match. Sandy Creek struggled against Chapel Hill in three games to lose the match (15-25, 25-19 and 16-25). Sandy Creek came back strong to defeat both Hiram (25-8 and 25-15) and Sprayberry (25-15 and 25-13). The young Patriot team was lead by freshman Mallie Haumann with 6 aces, junior, Anna Marchman with 50 assists, sophomore Olympia Haney with 18 kills and 4 blocks as well as sophomore, Jessie Ruple with 4 blocks and senior, Shamora Merritt with 31 digs. The Lady Patriots hit the road again on Friday, August 26th to play in the Collins Hill Tournament at Peachtree Ridge. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs season got started last week with wins over Eagles Landing Christian and East Coweta last Tuesday and a win over the defending AAA champion, Westminster 25-13, 25-15 last Thursday. McIntosh also hosted Starrs Mill last Thursday and lost 18-25, 28-26, 17-25. In the Westminster match, senior Leah Thomson had nine kills, while senior Danielle Crawford had five kills and seven digs. Senior Megan Cheatham had 15 assists and six digs in the match. McIntosh will host Lassiter and St. Pius X tomorrow with games at 5 and 6 p.m. Starrs Mill is 10-2 this season and are currently ranked first in AAAAA. The Lady Panthers placed third in the Sequoyah Classic losing to Marist in the semi-finals, 25-15, 25-17. They defeated Northview, 28-26, 23-25, 25-15 in the battle for third place. Kelly Elder leads the team in kills (65), digs (104) and service aces (14), while Mary Chadouin has 109 assists and Katie Millspaugh has 23.5 blocks. Starrs Mill will take on Marietta and Milton at Marietta tomorrow at 5 p.m. |
