Bad Links? | Sorenson gets tapped to move up to Nextel Cup series next year By MICHAEL BOYLAN Though former Peachtree City resident Reed Sorenson has only been racing in the NASCAR Busch Series since 2003, he has made a big mark for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS). Thats probably why he is jumping up to race in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series next year and will be racing alongside the biggest names in racing. It has been a relatively quick climb for Sorenson. In seven races between the ARCA and NASCAR Busch Series in 2004, he had four top five and five top 10 finishes between the two series. This year, Sorenson has two wins, two pole positions, 10 top five and 14 top 10 finishes in the NASCAR Busch Series. It is no surprise that he is leading the rookie of the year title chase in that series and the people at CGRFS are hoping he does the same thing in the Nextel Cup series next year. In addition to racing the No. 41 Target Dodge in the NEXTEL Cup series next year, he will also continue to race the No. 41 Discount Tire Dodge in the Busch Series. In a release from CGRFS, Sorenson stated his excitement about entering the NEXTEL Cup series. I have worked my entire life to earn this opportunity and to continue my association with Target at this level, given their history in motorsports, makes this step in my career even more memorable, said Sorenson. I have a lot to learn next year, but I am looking forward to contributing to the success of this program, running for the rookie of the year award in the Cup series and working with Casey (Mears), David (Stremme) and Jamie (McMurray). This weekends Busch series race is the Dominos Pizza 250. Sorenson is currently third in the Busch series standings, 219 points behind Martin Truex Jr. |
