Bad Links? | I-85 work to snarl weekend trafficBy BEN NELMS Does it seem like the construction on I-85 will ever end? Weather permitting? Construction this weekend between Ga. Highway 74 and Ga. Highway 138 will find lane closures along northbound and southbound I-85. The two right lanes of northbound I-85 will be closed from just north of Hwy. 74 to just south of Hwy. 138 beginning today at 9 p.m. They will remain closed until Monday at 5 a.m. The two right lanes of southbound I-85 will also be closed between Ga. Highway 138 and Ga. Highway 74 during the same period. We apologize for the inconvenience but due to weather conditions we must take very opportunity we have to do the work on this project, said Metro District Construction Engineer Mickey McGee. We are trying to give as much notice as possible so that motorists can seek alternative ways or even avoid the area if possible. DOT Commissioner Harold Linnenkohl advised motorists to use caution and refer to the departments NaviGAtor website for construction updates. This is a heavy construction season for us and we urge motorists to use caution and obey the speed limits in and near construction zones, Linnenkohl said. A combination of planning ahead and caution, updated NaviGAtor information and awareness will help to decrease delays, traffic and travel time. The DOT website, www.georgia-navigator.com provides up-to-date information on construction activities throughout Georgia. Construction information is also available by calling 1-888-419-GDOT (4368). |
