What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Two-For-One Fun at the Villages Amphitheater
Two popular 1950s rock-n-roll groups will be performing this Saturday at the Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville. The Platters and Cornell Gunters Coasters will take you back in time with their top hit songs. The Platters first formed during the dawn of the rock & roll era, the early part of the 1950s. The list of hits turned out by the original Platters includes ten songs that qualified for Billboards list of the 500 greatest rock & roll hits of all time. Songs include Only You, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and The Great Pretender. Over the years, the greatest of care has been taken to assure that each new member of the Platters carries on the tradition and maintains the skills that were associated with the original group. Cornell Gunters Coasters are the supreme comedians of rock-n- roll. Their songs, their parodies and their tunes that became million-selling records are revived in this new generation of music. Their first record, Down in Mexico was recorded in the spring of 1956 and propelled the Coasters into fame. Other hits include Young Blood, Yakety Yak and Charlie Brown. The gates open at 7 p.m. Fayette Idol winners Chelsea Medrano and Rachel Stanford will perform at 8 p.m. followed by Crystal and the Cruisers. The main acts will perform at 9 p.m. This is the last concert in the 2005 Bill Heard Chevrolet Summer Concert Series. 2006 concert series tickets will go on sale between Dec. through Jan. and individual tickets will be available in Feb. More information will be available on the website at the end of the year at www.villagesamphitheater.com | |
