Bad Links? | Sandy Creek and other volleyball teams open season on winning footThe Sandy Creek High School Lady Patriots started their 2005 Season with wins over Whitewater, 25-0-forfeit, 25-13 and Westlake, 25-13 and 25-11, then suffered a disappointing loss to Lithia Springs 21-25, 29-27 and 17-25. Shamora Merritt is presently the only healthy senior as Kristen Burnett and Brittany Howell are side-lined due to knee and ankle injuries respectively. Marie Auers lead the team with four aces, Ana Marchman completed 33 assists, Olympia Haney had 28 kills and five blocks, while Jesse Ruple had 22 digs. The Lady Patriots are on the road again tomorrow to play against Chapel Hill and Spayberry at Chapel Hill. Landmark Christian opened their season last week with wins over Decatur, 25-20 and 32-30; and Lovett, 24-26, 25-15, 25-14. Landmark hosted Marist and Fayette County last night after the paper went to press. They will take on Lassiter and St. Pius X next Thursday. Starrs Mill defeated Cherokee 25-17 and 25-20 on Saturday and also got a win over Northview, 28-26, 23-25, 25-15. The Lady Panthers did lose in two sets to Marist on Saurday as well. They hosted Lovett and Decatur last night after the paper went to press and will take on McIntosh and Westminster at McIntosh tomorrow. Matches start at 5 p.m. |
