Bad Links? | Community support sought for Little League teams tripBy JOHN MUNFORD Local residents and businesses are being asked to rally support for Peachtree Citys Challenger League all-star baseball team, which will be on the national stage next weekend, playing in front of thousands at an exhibition game at the Little League World Series. Although fund-raising is complete for the event, businesses are being asked to put signs of support for the team in their storefront windows. And all are invited to attend a big send-off event for the team at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. The team will leave early Friday morning and fly to Pennsylvania courtesy of AirTran, which donated tickets for team members and one family member. The LLWS is based in Williamsport, Penn., each year, and Nick Harris, who organized the trip, said he has been before and the atmosphere is simply electric. Sponsors for the trip have taken care of everything from air fare, transportation, meals, lodging and some nice little touches. All team members have received their own bat bags with their names embroidered on the sides, along with new team uniforms and several T-shirts. Each team member will also be armed with several special pins commemorating the trip, which can be traded in a specially designated tent on the LLWS grounds in Williamsport. This is so exciting for our kids and definite boost to our Little League program, Harris said. Most kids will never have the opportunity for this kind of international experience, Harris said. Harris is also excited about the send-off event planned by the citys recreation department. Team members are: Alison Romano, Sydney Brown, Ethan Harris, Loren Davis, Nicholas Sanchez, Joshua Edwards, Edward Griffin, Matthew Hayes, Owen Apfel, Justin Holcombe, Corey LaMonde, and Steven Ochoa. Coaches are Colleen Romano, Sharon Brown and Michael Bird. |
