Bad Links? | Four teams make it into preseason pollsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The pre-season volleyball coaches polls are in at GaSports.com and local teams are represented in three of the four state classifications for the sport. Landmark Christian is ranked second in Class AA/A. The Lady War Eagles went 27-20 last year and are always a force to be reckoned with. Landmarks longest win streak last season was six games. In AAAA, McIntosh is ranked fourth and Sandy Creek is ranked ninth. The Lady Chiefs went 30-15 last season and had a 12 game win streak in the middle of their season. Sandy Creek went 33-16 last season and had a 10 game win streak during their season. Starrs Mill, last years AAAAA state champions, are ranked fourth in AAAAA. This will be their final year in that classification. next year, they will drop to AAAA and will face McIntosh and Woodward Academy in area play. The Lady Panthers went 44-8 last year as they took home the title. They had two winning streaks of over 13 games during the season and closed the season out with a seven game win streak. In that span, they only lost two sets and those came in the final against Sequoyah. Starrs Mill will take on Sprayberry and Cherokee at Cherokee tomorrow and will play Westminster and McIntosh at McIntosh next Thursday at 5 p.m. The Lady Chiefs will start their season with home games against Eagles Landing Christian Academy and East Coweta next Tuesday. Sandy Creek went 2-1 on Tuesday defeating Whitewater and Westlake but falling 2-1 to Lithia Springs (25-13, 25-11). They will face North Forsyth, Oconee County, Etowah and North Springs tomorrow on the road. Landmark Christian will host Marist and Fayette County on Tuesday with games beginning at 5 p.m. |
