Bad Links? | Ticketmaster brokers deal for Christian concertBy JOHN MUNFORD A Christian concert planned for the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater will go on after all, now that a deal has been brokered between organizers and Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster officials have agreed to allow Four Nights in October organizer John Paone to continue to sell tickets to churches, which he said was key to having a successful event. In turn, Paone has agreed to not sell any tickets online or through the amphitheater box office, said Amphitheater Director Randy Angrisano. Paone said Thursday that he was happy with the agreement, which ultimately will have Ticketmaster offering the concert tickets online and at its outlets such as Publix grocery stores. The concert is still on for Oct. 6-9, Paone said. Ticketmaster could have in effect blocked the concert because of its exclusive contract to provide ticketing services for all events at the amphitheater. The annual event features popular Christian bands and part of the message is about suicide prevention, Paone said. Churches in particular buy blocks of tickets and give them out to members of the public as part of their outreach programs, he noted. Paone said he was thankful for the assistance of Ticketmaster officials in addition to Mayor Steve Brown and councilman Murray Weed, who is also chairman of the citys tourism association. Paone also thanked James Adduci of Martinis, who waived his companys exclusive rights to provide concessions at all amphitheater events. |
