Bad Links? | Vazquez wins scholarshipCarlos Vazquez, a 2005 graduate of Sandy Creek High School, was the recent recipient of a National Achievement Scholarship Award from the League of United Latin American Citizens. The merit-based $1,000 scholarship is awarded to Hispanic students in recognition of their scholastic accomplishments and promise of achievement. Carlos who will be attending the University of Georgia in the fall was one of only 25 students in Georgia to receive this award. The scholarship was made possible through donations from the Atlanta Council of LULAC, the National LULAC Organization, and U.S. Corporations. The awards presentation and dinner which took place at Dobbins Air Force base July 23 was sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and Chevron Corporation. LULAC, with approximately 115,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, is the largest and oldest Hispanic Organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide.
