Bad Links? | Rotary banquet highlights upcoming football seasonBy MICHAEL J. THOMPSON The 2005 high school season kicked off early yesterday, as the Peachtree City Rotary Club invited the five county head coaches to speak to members about the upcoming year at the Wyndam Conference center. Whitewater head coach Amos McCreay was awarded the Crying Towel Trophy, that he won by providing the most compelling evidence of the difficulties his team will face this year. Back on campus, theyre people trying to make sure the bathrooms are operational at the stadium, said McCreary. He said his team is still just comprised of juniors, sophomores and freshmen, but he looks forward to this year. McIntosh head coach Bruce Prosser spoke about his teams chances, and said this years edition of the Chiefs is his strongest since has been coaching there. This is my sixth year at McIntosh and I can tell you were looking forward to this year, he said. McIntosh will host Fayette County tonight a Jamboree game. When sizing up his team against the other county teams, Prosser joked, I think we have weights in our pants, because we have the best slow kids in the county. Starrs Mill head coach Mike Earwood said he has a good team that hopefully can make it past the second round the state playoffs. Weve made it the second round three of the last four years, so I hope this year we can get past that round, he said. The Panthers return just three starters on defense and three starters on offense, but Earwood believes the 16 other kids who are stepping into the starting roles will be able to compete and help the team come Aug. 20 in the Georgia Dome against No. 7 McEachern. |
