Bad Links? | Music to highlight Sept. 11 ceremony in Peachtree CityA musical tribute is planned to recognize Patriot Day in Peachtree City, the annual day of remembrance on the anniversary of the terrorist bombings that killed hundreds on Sept. 11, 2001. The free event will be at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater with gates opening at 3 p.m. and patriotic music starting at 3:30. The officials tribute will run from 4-6 p.m. We want to re-kindle the patriotic flame we saw in Americans after that day in 2001, said Randy Gaddo, Peachtree Citys Director of Leisure Services and also a retired Marine. The positive message we hope to convey is one of remembrance and patriotism and pride in being Americans." Four talented and divergent musical groups will perform and intersperse their very different styles of music throughout the performance. The 530th Air National Guard Band of the South, located at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, a premiere military group, will bring its full concert band to perform special selections. Joining them will be the Peachtree Wind Ensemble, the city's own community band composed of friends and neighbors united by a common love of music and country. Another well-known and respected vocal group, Music Alive, will feature a number of rousing special arrangements, and a new but exceptionally talented a cappella group known as the Southern Nights Chorale will leave its distinctive mark on citizens' hearts with a rich blend of men's voices. Two special guest speakers to be announced at a later date will bring brief but meaningful messages to the spectators. The event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. All amphitheater seating will be available, also on a first-come, first-serve basis. Spectators may bring in food and non-alcoholic drinks, which will also be available from the amphitheater concession stand, which is planned to be open. Alcoholic drinks will not be allowed at this family event. For more information call the Recreation Department at 770-631-2542. |
