Bad Links? | Phil Kent to speak in Fayetteville this weekendWell-known author, columnist and media commentator Phil Kent will be in Fayetteville Saturday to share his thoughts on Immigration Reform & National Security. The presentation and subsequent discussion, held in the meeting room at the International House of Pancakes, will begin at 9 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Breakfast is available from the menu. Kent regularly appears on Fox News Network, CNN, MSBC and syndicated talk radio programs across the nation. He is a political pundit on the Sunday TV show, The Georgia Gang, which airs on WAGA-TV in Atlanta. Kent is the president of Phil Kent Consulting, Inc. and recently stepped down as president of Southeastern Legal Foundation, an Atlanta-based public interest law firm and policy center. A veteran award-winning journalist, Phil was an editorial writer, editorial page editor, and political columnist for The Augusta Chronicle for 25 years. He was also a co-founder and chairman of the board of advisors from 1997-2000 of the Washington, D.C.-based Editorial Information Network, an organization providing Capitol Hill information to the media. His corporate clients include the Atlanta-based Southern Company, the Muncie-Ind.-based University Network, the Monterey, Va.-based American Immigration Control Foundation, the Seattle-based Rushmore Enterprises Coffee Company and the Washington-based American Research Foundation. In 1981-82, Kent served in Washington, D.C., as press secretary and public affairs advisor to the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.). After his tour of duty in the nations capital, he returned to The Augusta Chronicle as editorial page editor and he traveled extensively around the globe and filed columns. He served as president of SLF from April 2001 to June 2003, overseeing a court win in Charlotte over an illegal affirmative action plan, the filing of a lawsuit against the city of Atlanta over illegal use of impact fees and assisting in the omnibus federal lawsuit to overturn the McCain-Feingold campaign finance act. Kent is a member of the National Conference of Editorial Writers and the Military Order of World Wars, and serves on the boards of the Buckhead Club and the Senior Citizens Services in Atlanta. He also sits on the advisory board of the Washington-based ProEnglish organization. Kent will be speaking courtesy of the Fayette County Republican Party. The presentation is part of an on-going series of speakers hosted during the monthly breakfast meeting. All meetings are free and open to the public, membership is not required.
