Bad Links? | Library at work on 5-year planBy CAROLYN CARY Fayette County Public Library Director Chris Snell has announced that a group of county residents have been working on a five-year plan. This group has been working with the library staff to chart the future of library services for the next five years, said Snell. Facilitating the meetings over the last several months is Ruth ODonnell, an expert in public library planning. This is an exciting opportunity to look at existing services and decide new directions, said Snell. The library will focus its resources, the library facility, the staff, library materials and collections, and technology, to provide the services our residents want and need. The final suggestions made by the various committees will be turned over to the library staff. It will narrow those down and then meet with the Fayette County Board of County Commissioners probably this October. Local residents who have generously give their time include Snell; Edward Trever, assistant library director; Barry Amos, Town of Tyrone; Debbie Burke, Bank of Georgia; Peggy Butler, executive assistant to the county manager; Carolyn Cary, county historian; Patricia Poole, nurse; Pam Young, YMCA; Joan Neal, retired teacher; Linda Stetson, Georgia Library for the Blind; Fran Peckham, director of the Brooks Library; Tim Wojcik, library director, Our Lady of Mercy; Charles Rousseau, assistant director of the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Department; Jill Prouty, Information Technology, Peachtree City Library; Marie Washburn, library board; Julie Digby, manager, Tyrone Library; Jimmy White, retired principal; Jean White, library board; Elaine Gaillard, Chamber of Commerce; Cassie Murrell, HeadStart Program; Asia Jones, student; Nancy Price, Main Street; and Suzanne Christensen, a nurse. Any county resident with a suggestion, said Snell, is welcome to bring or send it to me at csnell@frrls.net or call 770-461-8841, ext. 5333. |
