Bad Links? | Fayette receives historical grantSecretary of State Cathy Cox announced last week that the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board has awarded Circuit Rider Archivist Consultation Grants to 56 Georgia organizations, including the Fayette County Historical Society. The grant recipients include counties, cities, court systems, boards of education, universities, historical societies, libraries, museums, and similar organizations in forty-five counties across the state. A professional Circuit Rider Archivist will visit these organizations and provide advice and assistance in the care of historical records. The Circuit Rider Archivist Program, funded by the Georgia General Assembly, Clayton State University, and a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, will assist local organizations with the preservation of historical documents, increase public access to historical records, and advance the use of technology in Georgias repositories and local government offices. I am pleased to announce these grants as part of our ongoing effort to serve the people of Georgia by ensuring our states historical records are preserved for future generations, said Cox. Thanks to the support of the Georgia General Assembly, GHRAB, Clayton State University, and NHPRC, historical organizations can utilize technology to protect our important documents and make them more accessible to the public. GHRAB, the states statutory body for historical records planning, works to promote the educational use of Georgias documentary heritage and to support efforts to improve the condition of records statewide. The Board is charged with advising the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Georgia Archives on records and policy issues. GHRAB administers the Historical Records Grant Program, to assist local governments, historical repositories, and other organizations in preserving historical records. For further information on GHRAB, please contact Elizabeth Barr, GHRAB Assistant Coordinator, at 678-364-3718, or visit www.GeorgiaArchives.org. |
