Bad Links? | Symphony coming to townBy BEN NELMS The already beautiful visual setting of Chattahoochee Hill Country will be filled with waves of sound Aug. 3 when the Atlanta Symphony presents a free summertime concert series performance at Hutcheson Ferry Park near Palmetto. Its the first time the Atlanta Symphony has been down there and its the first real use of the Hutcheson Ferry Park, which is a passive park on 103 acres, said symphony event project manager Barkley Russell. The gates open at 6 p.m and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. People are encouraged to bring their blankets and their picnic dinners. Russell said the entire symphony will be playing. Funding for the musicians comes by way of the Fulton Arts Council while Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy will provide the staging for the production. This is the first time the Hill Country has sponsored a concert and its probably the furthest south the symphony has performed in the county, Russell said. The concert will include a varied program, including Beethovens Movement I from Symphony No. 4 and John Williams Star Wars Suite. The concert will be conducted by Jere Flint, staff conductor and musical director for the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Hutcheson Ferry Park is located at 9774 Hutcheson Ferry Road at Gravel Road just west of Palmetto. The concert and parking are free. The concert event is provided by Fulton County Arts Council, Chattahoochee Hill Country Conservancy, Fulton County Commission and Fulton County Parks and Recreation.
