Bad Links? | Megachurch planned for Poplar RoadBy JOHN THOMPSON The Coweta County Commission gave its blessing last week for Crossroads Baptist Church too build a huge facility on the eastern side of the county. The County Commission voted to grant a conditional use permit for the church to relocate from Sharpsburg-McCollum Road to a new 117-acre site near Ga. Highway 16 and Poplar Road. The church plans to build a 45,000 sq. ft. worship center, along with a 40,000 sq. ft education center. The worship center will seat 1,560 members. The development would also include four recreational fields. The development is so large it had to go through a Development of Regional impact Study by the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority. The agency signed off in the project in May and Cowetas planning department agreed with the findings. The planners did attach a few conditions to the conditional use permit that included: Affirmation by the church that they were in an industrial zoning area. Alignment of the entrance to the church with the existing driveway at Poplar Road Elementary School. Construction of a left turn lane and a deceleration lane at each site access drive along Poplar Road. The church leaders agreed to the conditions and left the commission chambers ready to start construction on the new facility.
