What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | A new gallery coming to FayettevilleTA new concept in art education is coming to Fayetteville via Kathaleen Brewer, a former Art Commissioner and gallery director in Southern California. Brewer is transforming the 1920 yellow bungalow house on the corner of Fisher and Lee Avenues (across from City Hall) into a Home Place for Creative Minds. My goal is to provide a nurturing, non-competitive atmosphere where artist of all genres can congregate and learn from one another. Along with offering conventional lessons, Brewer will be providing an incredible self-help library of how-to videos and DVDs plus books and magazines that deal with all genres of art, photography, writing and music. Being a self-taught writer, photographer and artist myself, I lean more towards empowering individuals to follow their passions in whatever manner suites them best. She adds that over time shes come to realize the great advantage of congregating amongst kindred spirits. Nothing beats the exchange of like minds. Fayette Art Center and Gallery is a dream come true for Brewer. Its such a relief to leave behind the high-end art mania of Ojai, California. Ojai is an internationally recognized art enclave between Santa Barbara and LA. The people here in Fayetteville are so much nicer and Im finally close to my parents. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Brewer, who live in the familys restored pre-civil war home on Beaureguard Blvd. She is actively recruiting teachers for small classes of six or less in oil, watercolor, mixed media, photography (especially digital), poetry, and short story writing. In regards to music, she says there have been request for guitar, banjo, harmonica, piano (she is looking to borrow one) and fiddle teachers, although she leans more towards jam sessions on the front porch. So if you know of anyone who would like to teach these classes, please have them call her at 770-461-4494. There will also be an Art Gallery in the home and a small store that will feature hard to find art materials. Brewer will be exhibiting her own work, as well as that of local artists. Kathaleens manipulated Polaroids have been shown in California galleries for over ten years. She says she switched to pastels three years ago. Two west coast galleries exhibit her pastels today. In conjunction, she will be offering mini seminars and lectures. Brewer adds that rooms are for rent real cheap for any artistic organizations meetings. And last, but not least, she is starting an archive of books, art, photography and music by Fayette County residents. She already has a collection of Dr. Sambos books as well as Robert Burchs Gold Medal childrens books. So, again, if you know of someone whos work ought to be archived, please contact Brewer by dropping by or calling 770-461-4494. She hopes to open by the second or third week of August. Its been quiet the daunting task, bringing all this together by myself, but at least I know the foundation for an Art Center in Fayetteville will be a good one. And now that the first stones have been laid, I am at the stage where I am wide open to suggestions of whatever else the people of Fayette County would like to have in their back yard. | |
