What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Loverboy and John Waite bring back the 80sLovin Every Minute Of The Fred
By LINDSAY BIANCHI The 80s come back in a big way this weekend as the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater presents Loverboy and John Waite July 29 and 30. Still putting on an energetic, rockin show, Mike Reno and his fellow Canadians are joined by British pop/rocker Waite for a double dose of musical excitement. Still getting plenty of heavy airplay, the driving sound of Loverboy has been a part of everyones party for over two decades. Working for the Weekend, Hot Girls In Love, Lovin Every Minute Of It, and The Kid Is Hot Tonight all pack a one-two punch of rock and roll muscle. Since their self-titled debut in 1980, Loverboy have gone on to make Canadian history as they set touring records throughout the eighties. Although the band took a little time off in the late 80s and early 90s, since they reformed in 1993, Paul, Mike, Matt, Doug and Scott returned to perform for fans both old and new. With the release of Live, Loud and Loose, in 2001, Loverboy hit the road again, this time dedicating the concert tour to their late bassist Scott Smith, who was declared lost at sea in November of 2000. They are celebrating 25 years together in the music business, but their songs are as fresh as yesterday. Sharing the bill Friday and Saturday night is John Waite, best known for his mega-hit, Missing You, from 1984. Waite has followed his own path over the years since he started out in 1976 with The Babys. It wasnt until he went solo that he made an ever-lasting impression with the help of MTV and his self-effacing video for Missing You. Besides another run with another band, this time Bad English, Waite has made his most affecting music under his own name. He released another set of songs last year entitled The Hard Way, which shows he has a genuine love for songwriting and music and general. Catch this great double line-up at the Fred. Tickets are $45 each and can be ordered through Ticketmaster or by calling 404-249-6400. For more information phone 770-631-0630. | | |
