Bad Links? | FCHS and Auburn grad wins her pro debut By MICHAEL BOYLAN Last week was a big week for Fayette County High School graduate Diana Ramage. Fresh from completing her fifth year of eligibility at Auburn University because of a serious wrist injury, Ramage competed in the Yamaha Georgia Womens Open at The Old Course at Cannongate on White Oak last week and won the tournament with a score of 133, 11 shots under par. Last Tuesday, she began the tournament by shooting a tournament record 65. On Wednesday she birdied three of the first four holes, taking a seven shot lead and cruising to the win. She did not bogey in the tournament and had 26 of 28 fairways hit and 33 greens in regulation. Her two day total was also a tournament record. Not bad for someone who was under doctors orders to not play golf since the college season finished. Ramage took home the W.A. (Bill) Roquemore trophy and also collected the winners check of $2,000 in her professional debut. In August, Ramage will play in the Futures Tour. Though this was her professional debut, Ramage had an outstanding year at Auburn University. The team placed third in the NCAA Championships and Ramage won the ACC/SEC Challenge, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic and the NCAA Central Regional Championship. Ramage, the duaghter of John and Brenda Ramage, was the GHSA AAAA state champion in 2000. |
