Flat Rock A.M.E. schedules anniversary, homecomingFlat Rock African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church will celebrate its 151st anniversary in August with a three-day revival and a host of other special events scheduled for Aug 10-14. The theme is Celebrating 151 years of standing on the Rock. To start things off, a revival will begin Wednesday, Aug. 10 and will continue through Friday, Aug. 12, with services at 7 p.m. nightly. On Sunday, Aug. 14, activities will begin with Sunday school at 10 a.m., followed by a special youth worship with the Rev. Walter Daniels, presiding elder for the South Atlanta District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Following worship, a Welcome Home dinner will be served from 1 - 2:30 p.m. At 3 p.m., the special anniversary worship service begins, featuring as guest pastor the Rev. Mark Thompson of Big Bethel A.M.E. Church in Atlanta. Flat Rock A.M.E., founded in 1854, was the parent church for six other churches in Fayette County Holly Grove, Flipper Chapel, Little Vine, Bethlehem Baptist, Edgefield Baptist and Rising Star Baptist. We are a small congregation, a spokesperson said, but Flat Rock has served the Fayette community through the years.
