Bad Links? | Council OKs stop light for Stevens EntryBy JOHN MUNFORD Another traffic light is coming to Peachtree City, but its not due to some massive development about to come online. Over the years, motorists have found it increasingly dangerous to cross Ga. Highway 54 at Stevens Entry due to the increased volume of traffic on the highway. The Georgia Department of Transportation has determined theres enough traffic for the intersection to qualify for a light, and thus the City Council voted to pay for installing a light there, estimated at $70,000. Assistant City Manager Colin Halterman said although the DOT would ultimately foot the whole bill for the light, it could take five or six years for them to get it installed. The city could have the light much quicker by paying the estimated $70,000 to have it installed immediately, Halterman said. Councilwoman Judi-ann Rutherford asked why telephone service to the lights control box was needed. Halterman said that allows the DOT in some cases to use its computer system to troubleshoot any problems with the light. |
