Bad Links? | Outstanding volunteer to be honoredSouthwest Christian Care will present their 2005 Servant Leadership Award to Mrs. Jean Richardson, a long-time hospice volunteer. Jean has been a faithful volunteer at Southwest Christian Hospice since its beginning in 1983. When the initial homecare ministry began, she stepped forward to go into the homes and give care to some of the first patients. When Hospice became an in-patient facility in 1987, Jean used her organizational skills as the Hospices first volunteer coordinator. Jean did any job required of her when she began and still does the same today. Whether it is folding laundry, ordering supplies, answering the phone, or visiting with the patients and their families, she puts as much of her heart into her volunteer duties as if the Hospice were her own home. Jean began learning about serving others as a child accompanying her mother on visits to the sick and elderly within her church and community. She is married to Dr. Jim Richardson, DDS and has four children and seven grandchildren. Through the years, while being a full-time housewife and mother, Jean served her community through the Red Cross, in a local hospital as a nurses aide, assisting in Bible studies and singing at local nursing homes, and through her membership at Southwest Christian Church. She has continued to use her gifts to serve others in all aspect of her life. We are pleased to honor Jean Richardson for her 22 years of service to the ministry of Southwest Christian Hospice and also for her lifetime of love and care of others, according to a statement from Southwest. Jean has certainly been a vital part of the firm foundation for Southwest Christian Hospice and Hope House, her church, and her family. Richardson will be honored Friday, August 19, at Southwest Christian Cares 13th Annual Benefit Dinner and Award Banquet featuring Jeff Foxworthy. |
