Bad Links? | Stormwater utility being planned to fix problem areas in Peachtree CityBy JOHN MUNFORD The recent heavy rains brought to the area have brought flooding problems throughout Peachtree City to the forefront. Long-term problem areas not related to structural concerns or building damage are being added to the citys stormwater capital projects list when appropriate, said city Public Information Officer Betsy Tyler. That list is being reevaluated due to see how newly discovered problems fit in as far as the urgency is concerned, Tyler said. In the long term, the city is planning a stormwater utility program that will handle making necessary repairs. Funds would be culled from a fee charged to city residents and businesses based on the amount of impervious surface on the lot, Tyler said. The city wants to base the fees on the total cost of projects to be done, Tyler added. Hopes are to have implementation of the utility begin by February, she said. In addition to cataloging the recurring problems, city engineering and building department staffs have been evaluating possible damage to roads, bridges and culverts, including the roads that were closed temporarily due to the storm, Tyler said. The sites of all flooding complaints have been visited by staff as the calls were received, Tyler added.
