Bad Links? | Liquor ordinance gets final passage By JOHN THOMPSON More than eight months after the people spoke, Senoia finally has a new alcohol ordinance. Last November, the voters overwhelmingly approved a measure that allows mixed drinks to be served in the citys restaurants. But it was not until Monday night that the City Council signed off on a final ordinance. The central issue surrounding the delay was what constituted a restaurant. The citys old ordinance said a restaurant is an establishment that serves two meals a day, five times a week. But the City Council changed the definition Monday to a place that serves one meal a day, three days a week. The change will allow the citys two bed and breakfasts to serve alcohol. The ordinance also allows legitimate theater performances to serve alcohol. Councilman Bill Wood questioned if the language of the ordinance was referring to Off-Broadway or Broadway categories of theater, but attorney Drew Whalen said the language was put in the ordinance for a different reason. You dont want to have a sex show selling alcohol, he said. Residents could start applying for selling distilled spirits Tuesday morning.
