Bad Links? | Meth awareness group to meet Thurs. in FayettevilleFayette County FACTOR will host its next meeting this Thursday at Fayetteville Municipal Court in its quest to rid the community of methamphetamine abuse. The meeting is from 7-9 p.m. and all are invited to attend. Methamphetamine abuse is becoming a problem in the community, FACTOR, law enforcement and child welfare officials say. To stop it, the collaboration of multiple resources in the community is critical to combat this growing problem. Fayette FACTOR is a group, which is supporting the development of a Meth Task Force in the county. The task force will emphasize a four-pronged approach to this problem. These are treatment, education, enforcement and prevention. The treatment prong will identify an array of treatment options available to persons seeking help. The education prong will focus on educating those persons not at risk for drug abuse, but need to be educated on what meth is and what dangers it poses. The enforcement prong will be geared toward the investigation and arrest of those persons involved in meth production and distribution. A tip line and Web site soon will be available to aid enforcement. Lastly, the prevention prong will focus on those persons at risk for drug abuse. It will emphasize dissemination of education materials and plan events on the effects of meth in our community. |
