Bad Links? | North Hwy. 85 to get nighttime treatmentBy JOHN MUNFORD Night owls in Fayetteville will need to drive a little more cautiously starting in mid-August. Thats when crews are set to begin on a resurfacing project on Ga. Highway 85 north that will stretch between Ga. Highway 92 and the Clayton County line, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The work will be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., but there will be no lane closures during the day. During the project, all the traffic signals will be changed to a timer system instead of being triggered by vehicle activity. Once complete, the system will return to using vehicle activation, officials said. The scheduled completion date is Nov. 30. The $2.05 million contract calls for 4.59 miles of road to be resurfaced, and shoulder reconstruction will also take place. Motorists are urged to drive carefully through any work zone whether they see activity or not. Lane shifts and traffic slowdowns are expected. C.W. Matthews Contracting is responsible for the project. Both northbound and southbound lanes will be patched in preparation for the resurfacing, officials said. |
