Bad Links? | Panters and Chiefs 2005 schedules announced, practice starts next weekBy MICHAEL BOYLAN High school football teams are allowed to start practicing next week and the openeing of the 2005 season is right around the corner. The Starrs Mill Panthers, playing in their final season in 4-AAAAA, and the McIntosh Chiefs will face some tough opponents this season, though both teams will shoot for state playoffs. Starrs Mill once again will open their season at the Corky Kell Kickoff Classic. They will take on the McEachern Indians (9-3 last year) on Saturday, Aug. 20 and will follow it up with two home games. They will host Pebblebrook (3-7) on Aug. 26 and Spalding (1-8) on Sept. 2. The Panthers will travel to take on Tri-Cities (1-8) on Sept. 19 and will open their region schedule at home on Sept. 16 with a game against Union Grove (3-7). On Sept. 23, Starrs Mill will take on Lovejoy (8-4) at Twelve Oaks Stadium in Hampton. They will follow that game with a game at East Coweta on Sept. 30. On Oct. 7, Starrs Mill will play Mundys Mill (3-6-1) at Twelve Oaks Stadium and after a bye week they will close the season with two home games; Newnan (6-5) on Oct. 21 and Fayette County (1-9) on Oct. 28. McIntosh, 4-6 last year, opens the season on the road with a game at Douglas County (6-5) on Aug. 19 and follows it up with a home game against Villa Rica (6-4) on Aug. 26. September starts with a bang as the Chiefs will host Sandy Creek (11-1) on Sept. 9. They will follow it up with a game at Alexander (1-9) on Sept. 16, a home game against Lithia Springs (3-7) on Sept. 23 and a game at Northgate (8-3) on Sept. 30. In October, McIntosh wil have two home games and two away games. They will host Creekside (10-2) on Oct. 7 and will play at Woodward Academy (5-5) on Oct. 14. On Oct. 21, McIntosh will host Haralson County (2-8) and will end the season with a game at Chapel Hill (1-9). |
