Bad Links? | Seals to name swimmers of the year, announce plans for aquatic centerThe Southside Seals Masters Swim Team will present the Fayette County Swimmers of the Year awards at Kedron Aquatic Center tonight at 7 p.m. This years group of honorees represents the phenomenal growth in competitive swimming within our county, both in numbers and quality. The swimmers to be honored include state champions and All-Americans, several of which will continue their swimming careers with swimming scholarships to outstanding collegiate programs. The Southside Seals will also announce the 2005 inductee to the Fayette County Swimming Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was created in 2002 to honor outstanding swimmers, coaches, and officials that though their accomplishments serve as role models for future generations of swimmers. After the awards ceremony, Pam Young of the Fayette Family YMCA will present plans for a new swimming complex for Fayette County that will more than double the available training facilities and provide a national class competitive aquatic venue to the South Metro area. The YMCA Aquatic Center will feature a 50 meter indoor pool which will be used for training by all local swimming teams including the five local high schools. The venue will be able to host regional and national class events that will bring some of the best swimmers in the US and world to our county. Such events will also have significant economic benefits to our county. Plan to attend this important event to honor our swimming accomplishments and review plans for our swimming future. |
