Bad Links? | Brown cites need for blood donorsDue to blood donors vacationing and the demand for blood being strong, the Metro Atlanta area is experiencing a blood shortage. Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown, chairman of the South Metro Red Cross Service District, is calling for all local residents who are able to donate blood to please do so. Most people dont know that under normal circumstances we have to bring in nearly 4,000 units of blood from outside the Metro Atlanta area just to meet our demand, said Brown. So we are especially hurt when our normal blood donors are not available during the summer. Peachtree City facilitates blood drives every first Monday of each month at The Gathering Place on McIntosh Trail from 2:30-7:30 p.m. All residents are encouraged to donate as soon as possible. Type O blood is especially needed. To donate, you must be at least 17 years old and in good health. Before donating blood you are asked to eat a well-balanced, nutritious meal and double your normal fluid intake 48 hours before donating. For more information, call The Gathering Place at 770-631-2553. |
