Bad Links? | I-85 ramps on Hwy. 74 to be closed July 8-10By JOHN MUNFORD Motorists weary of the weekend road construction on I-85 just north of the Peachtree City/Tyrone exit will have a respite from the work this weekend as lane closures are suspended for the July 4 holiday. But if the weather is decent next weekend, drivers should particularly beware as the on and off ramps to I-85 southbound on Ga. Highway 74 will be closed. The closures will begin 9 p.m. Friday and end 5 a.m. Monday. Alternate routes will be necessary, since the ramp closures will keep southbound traffic from accessing Hwy. 74. Work in the southbound lanes near the on-ramp for Ga. Highway 74 continued the past two weekends, causing trouble for some travelers. Only one southbound lane was open near the Hwy. 74 exit because thats where the Interstate reduces to three lanes instead of four. The project has required two lane closures simultaneously. It is highly necessary to improve driving conditions as pavement is being replaced in multiple locations, according to officials of the Georgia Department of Transportation. As an alternate route, Tyrone and Peachtree City residents can use South Fulton Parkway to reach U.S. Highway 29 south, which passes through Fairburn and intersects with Hwy. 74 a few miles north of the I-85 interchange. |
